Our members and friends are welcome to participate in a wide array of member programs that are stimulating and enrich both our lives and the lives of those in our community.  Please review the list below and check our calendar for upcoming programs.

More Fun Stuff

In 2020, due to the pandemic, we added three Zoom based programs.  They were so successful that we decided to continue them on Zoom and will continue them as we “go live” after the pandemic.   These programs are:

  • Shabbat Schmooze and Learn What it Sounds Like
A place for members to come together for interesting lectures and discussions led by outside speakers or members of our congregation.  Some recent sessions were Stolen Holocaust Art with Susan Bloom, Flourless Baking for Passover with Ali Katz and Footsteps with Steve Eisman.
  • Flicks and Friends – Movies with Jewish Themes
We choose movies of Jewish interest, watch them at home and discuss them later in a group setting.  Recent movies included Cafe Society, the Life Ahead and The Cake Maker.
  • Family Circle – All Family Holiday Celebrations such as Hanukkah and Passover

Our Congregation provides its members with many opportunities for social action. Our programs benefit women’s and teen shelters, foster children and homeless veterans, the homebound and the hungry. By reaching out to people in need, we not only help to repair the world, but also strengthen our Jewish identity and provide an important example of our values for our children.  Each year, the NFRS Board of Directors reviews a list of charities and decides which one should receive a donation.   Some of the charities where we have made a donation include CAST, North Fork Spanish Apostolate, Maureen’s Haven and Footsteps.  In addition, we support:

  • Food and clothing drives benefiting the less fortunate among us
  • Mad Hatters – our members meet to knit and crochet hats for chemotherapy patients
