From the fields of pumpkins and the dip in temperature, winter is a-coming. In response to several requests for less intense movies, (and in the hope of increased attendance), your Committee has come up with a brand new idea that we have “borrowed” from a granddaughter’s college course called Gender and Yiddish.

First, watch Yentl, a 1984 Award winning musical based on the I.B Singer short story, starring Barbra Streisand, Mandy Patinkin and Amy Irving. Available on Prime and Apple TV.

Second, please read the I.B.Singer short story, Yentl the Yeshiva Boy, A Story, written by I.B. Singer in the 1950s.

Third, read the 1984 New York Times interview with I.B.Singer. You can guess what he discusses.

Our hope is for a lively discussion. The granddaughter’s class had a passionate response to the movie, story, article and author. We hope to do as well.
