North Fork Synagogue began in 1992 with a tiny group of founding members. They ran an ad in the newspaper inviting anyone interested in starting a Reform Synagogue to attend a meeting. A surprising number of us did. As we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, we are welcoming the fourth generation into our special congregation.
Previously unaffiliated members have joined NFRS to enjoy the intellectual and cultural stimulation offered in its services and programs.
In 1994 we acquired a historically unique Holocaust Torah which was rededicated by a ’marriage ceremony’ to our congregation.
Today NFRS is a viable organization flourishing in the mainstream of North Fork religious, social and cultural life. We are a part of the Union for Reform Judaism and we are chartered with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. We are happy to share the home of Cutchogue Presbyterian Church where the doors hold our mezuzahs and the walls hold our memorial plaques.
We invite participation, challenging thought, stimulating ideas, new concepts, quiet introspection and reflection.
Our members are active in a wide spectrum of social action activities that enrich and enlighten our community and our world.
